"Is Kit actually free? And what will I pay once my list grows?" Those are the two questions behind most searches for "Kit pricing" or "ConvertKit pricing" (Kit is the platform formerly called ConvertKit).

Short answers: Kit's free plan goes up to 10,000 subscribers, but it leaves out email sequences and visual automations. Those start on Creator, which is $39 a month at 1,000 subscribers and $199 at 25,000. Below you'll find the full price table, the cost at five list sizes, and what selling a product costs on the free plan.

Kit pricing at a glance

Kit has three plans: Free, Creator and Pro. Paid plans are priced by subscriber count, so the same plan costs more as your list grows. Prices shown are monthly billing at the time of our last check. Please confirm on the official pricing page before you buy.

PlanMonthly billingYearly billingKey limit
Free$0$0Up to 10,000 subscribers
Creator$39 at 1,000 subs, up to $199 at 25,00010 × the monthly price (e.g. $390/yr at 1,000)Unlimited sequences and visual automations
Pro$79 at 1,000 subs, up to $279 at 25,00010 × the monthly price (e.g. $790/yr at 1,000)Everything in Creator, at a higher price per tier

Kit also offers a "14-day free trial. No credit card required." on its paid plans, and free migrations if you're moving from another platform.

Every price tier, Creator and Pro

These are the monthly prices Kit lists for each subscriber tier we checked, on monthly billing.

SubscribersCreatorPro
1,000$39$79
3,000$59$99
5,000$89$139
8,000$119$169
10,000$139$189
15,000$169$249
20,000$189$269
25,000$199$279

Note the jump from 3,000 to 5,000 on Creator: $30 for 2,000 more subscribers. A list of 2,000 falls in the 3,000 tier, so it costs $59, not a figure in between. Kit's tiers are steps, not a sliding scale.

One easy mistake: $79 is the Pro price at 1,000 subscribers, not the Creator price at 5,000. Creator at 5,000 is $89.

What Kit costs at 1,000, 3,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 25,000 subscribers

Here's the monthly bill at five list sizes. We show Free (broadcasts only) next to Creator, the cheapest Kit plan that can send an automated welcome sequence, and the yearly total.

List sizeKit FreeKit Creator (monthly)Creator, 12 months monthlyCreator, billed yearly
1,000$0$39$468$390
3,000$0$59$708$590
5,000$0$89$1,068$890
10,000$0 (at its cap)$139$1,668$1,390
25,000Not available$199$2,388$1,990

Prices shown are monthly billing at the time of our last check. Please confirm on the official pricing page before you buy.

The math:

  • 12 months on monthly billing: the monthly price × 12. At 5,000, $89 × 12 = $1,068.
  • Yearly billing: 10 × the monthly price. At 5,000, $89 × 10 = $890, so you save $178 (two months).
  • 25,000 subscribers: Kit Free covers up to 10,000, so a list this size is on a paid plan. Creator is $199 a month.

Drag the slider to your list size, or where you expect it to be in a year, and choose whether you need an automated welcome sequence. You'll see Kit's cheapest plan next to MailerLite, beehiiv, Systeme.io and GetResponse, plus what happens to the bill if your list doubles.

What happens past 10,000 subscribers

The free plan ends at 10,000. The next Creator tier above that, 15,000 subscribers, is $169 a month on monthly billing. If you're at 9,000 and growing, budget for that step before you reach it. Going from $0 to $169 is the biggest single jump in Kit's pricing, because you start paying for the whole list at once, not just the extra subscribers.

If you only send broadcasts and don't need automations, that jump is the point where cheaper tools start to look attractive. We cover them further down.

Kit Free plan: what you get and what you don't

Kit's pricing page lists the Free plan as "Free—up to 10,000 subscribers." For $0, per that page, you get:

  • Unlimited landing pages and forms
  • Unlimited broadcasts (one-off emails you send by hand)
  • Tagging and segmentation
  • Selling digital products and subscriptions

What the free plan leaves out is the automation layer: no email sequences and no visual automations. Those are Creator features. So on Free, a new subscriber can join through your form, but emails 2, 3 and 4 of a welcome series have to be sent by hand as broadcasts.

Free also doesn't include the Creator extras: removing Kit branding and RSS campaigns. A/B testing is 2 subject lines on both Free and Creator (5 on Pro).

The 14-day free trial

Kit's pricing page says "14-day free trial. No credit card required." That lets you try Creator's automations before paying. If you're still deciding whether Free is enough, build a three-email welcome sequence during the trial and see whether you'd miss it.

What Creator adds, and which plan you need

Creator is Kit's mid-priced plan, and for most creators it's the one that matters. Kit's pricing page lists these additions over Free:

  • Unlimited email sequences
  • Unlimited Visual Automations
  • Remove Kit branding
  • RSS campaigns
  • Paid Recommendations (get paid to promote other creators' newsletters)

Which plan do you need for an automated welcome sequence?

Creator. A welcome sequence is a series of emails that goes out automatically after someone subscribes, and Kit lists sequences as a Creator feature. On Free you can't set one up.

At 1,000 subscribers that costs $39 a month ($468 over 12 months on monthly billing). At 5,000 it's $89 ($1,068 a year).

What does Pro add?

Pro costs more at every tier: $79 vs $39 at 1,000, $139 vs $89 at 5,000, $189 vs $139 at 10,000. For the same list sizes, that's a gap of $40, $50 and $50 a month, or $480, $600 and $600 over a year on monthly billing.

Kit's pricing page lists extra reporting tools on Pro, such as subscriber engagement scoring and deliverability reporting. For a creator whose main need is "send automated emails that sell," Creator already covers the sequences and automations, so Pro is a decision to make once you actually need the reporting. Check Kit's pricing page for the current Pro feature list.

Extra costs to budget for: the selling fee

Kit lets you sell digital products and subscriptions on every plan, Free included. The cost is a per-sale fee, not a monthly one.

Kit's pricing page lists "3.5% + 30c" for "any digital products or subscription," and describes it as "inclusive of credit card processing fees." We read that as the whole per-sale cost: you don't add a separate card fee on top. Fees can change, so check the pricing page before you set prices.

What selling a $50 product costs on the Free plan

Monthly salesSales countKit fee (3.5% + 30c)You keep
$50010 sales$17.50 + $3.00 = $20.50$479.50
$1,00020 sales$35 + $6 = $41$959
$5,000100 sales$175 + $30 = $205$4,795

The plan fee on Free is $0, so the fee column is your whole cost. Add the Creator price if you also need sequences:

  • $1,000 in sales, 1,000 subscribers, Creator: $39 + $41 = $80
  • $5,000 in sales, 5,000 subscribers, Creator: $89 + $205 = $294

On a low-priced product, the 30c matters more than it looks. On a $10 sale, 3.5% is 35c and the flat part is 30c, so the fee is 65c, or 6.5% of the price. On a $100 sale it's $3.50 + 30c = $3.80, or 3.8%.

If you're comparing against a platform with a 0% platform fee, read the full math in Systeme.io vs Kit, which prices a $50 course side by side.

Monthly vs yearly billing: how much you save

Kit's yearly billing is 10 × the monthly price, which its pricing page labels "Pay yearly—save 17%." In practice that is two months free. Creator at 1,000 subscribers shows as about $33 a month, billed as $390 a year.

List sizeCreator, 12 × monthlyCreator, yearlyYou save
1,000$468$390$78
5,000$1,068$890$178
10,000$1,668$1,390$278
25,000$2,388$1,990$398

Pro follows the same rule: $790 a year at 1,000 subscribers, against $948 on monthly billing ($79 × 12), so you save $158.

Is yearly worth it? If you've used Kit through the free trial and know Creator's sequences fit your setup, yearly saves real money. If you're still testing, we'd stay on monthly billing. One more thing to know: your price follows your subscriber count, so a list that grows past a tier boundary will raise the bill, and we haven't verified how Kit handles that on a plan you've already paid for a year in advance. Ask Kit support before prepaying if your list is close to a tier edge.

Cheaper or better-fit alternatives

Kit's free plan is generous on list size, but Creator isn't the cheapest way to get an automated sequence. Here's what the cheapest sequence-capable plan costs elsewhere, monthly billing.

Plans differ in more than price, so use this as a starting point. A few notes:

  • MailerLite has a free plan (250 subscribers, 2,500 emails a month, 3 automations), so it suits a small list that needs automation right away. Past 250 subscribers you move to Comfort ($19 at 1,000). Comfort's sending limit is 10 times the top of your subscriber tier per month.
  • beehiiv has a free plan up to 2,500 subscribers with a single welcome email. A multi-step sequence needs Lite. It's built for newsletters that are the product, so it fits writers who plan to charge readers or sell ads. See beehiiv vs Kit.
  • Systeme.io has a free plan (2,000 contacts, one automation rule, one workflow) and takes 0% on sales, but it's a funnel and course builder with email attached, not an email-first tool. Our Systeme.io vs Kit comparison has the details.

At 5,000 subscribers with a sequence, Kit Creator at $89 against Systeme.io Startup at $17 is a $72 monthly gap, or $864 over 12 months on monthly billing. Against MailerLite Comfort at $49, the gap is $40 a month, or $480.

Kit's edge is its email automation and its free plan size, not the lowest price. For the full ranking, see best email marketing for creators.

Which Kit plan should you pick?

  • Under 10,000 subscribers, newsletters only: Free. $0, and you can sell a product while you grow.
  • Selling a product and want automated follow-up: Creator. Start at the tier that matches your list, not the one you hope to reach.
  • Brand new to email: Free, or the 14-day trial if you want to test sequences first. Our guide on how to start an email list covers the first freebie and welcome email.
  • Moving from another platform: Kit lists free migrations, so check that before you pay for both tools at once.
  • Mostly want the cheapest sequence: Compare the table above. Kit is rarely the lowest-priced option for that job.

FAQ

Is Kit free?

Yes, up to a point. Kit's pricing page lists a Free plan for up to 10,000 subscribers, with unlimited landing pages, forms and broadcasts, tagging and segmentation, and product sales. It doesn't include email sequences or visual automations, which start on Creator at $39 a month for 1,000 subscribers.

Is Kit the same as ConvertKit?

Yes. Kit is the current name of the platform formerly called ConvertKit. If you find older "ConvertKit pricing" articles, their prices may be outdated, so check Kit's current pricing page.

How much does Kit cost per month?

It depends on your list. On monthly billing, Creator is $39 at 1,000 subscribers, $89 at 5,000, $139 at 10,000 and $199 at 25,000. Pro is $79, $139, $189 and $279 at the same sizes. Free costs $0 up to 10,000 subscribers.

Does Kit charge a fee on sales?

Kit's pricing page lists 3.5% + 30c on digital products and subscriptions, on every plan, and describes it as inclusive of credit card processing fees. On a $50 sale that is $1.75 + $0.30 = $2.05.

Do I need a paid plan for a welcome sequence?

Yes. Email sequences are a Creator feature, so the cheapest way to send an automated welcome series on Kit is Creator at $39 a month for 1,000 subscribers (monthly billing).

Does Kit have a free trial?

Kit's pricing page says "14-day free trial. No credit card required." You can also stay on the Free plan as long as you're under 10,000 subscribers.

Does Kit charge for migrating from another platform?

Kit lists free migrations from another platform. Confirm the details with Kit before you move, especially if you have paid subscribers.

The bottom line

Kit is free for broadcasts up to 10,000 subscribers, and that is a real advantage for a growing list. The cost shows up when you want automation: Creator is $39 at 1,000 subscribers and $89 at 5,000, and the selling fee is 3.5% + 30c per sale on every plan.

If email is the heart of your business and you want sequences and visual automations in one place, Kit Creator is a reasonable buy. If you mainly want the cheapest automated welcome sequence, compare MailerLite and Systeme.io first. Either way, start on the free plan and upgrade when a missing feature costs you more than the plan.
