Systeme.io vs ClickFunnels: What You'll Really Pay at 1k, 5k and 10k Contacts

Neither one takes a cut of your sales, but the monthly bills are far apart. Here's the math at three list sizes, the limits that bite first, and when ClickFunnels earns its price.

Heads-up: some links on this page are affiliate links. If you sign up through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn't decide our picks. Here's how we review.

Is ClickFunnels worth $97 a month when Systeme.io has a free plan? That's usually the real question behind a "Systeme.io vs ClickFunnels" search.

Here's the short version. Neither platform takes a percentage of your sales, so the difference is the monthly bill. At 5,000 contacts you'd pay $17 a month on Systeme.io and $97 on ClickFunnels. That's $960 a year.

Below, we do the math at 1k, 5k and 10k contacts, show which limit you'll hit first on each platform, list what ClickFunnels includes that Systeme.io doesn't advertise, and explain how to switch without losing your list.

Pick Systeme.io if…

  • You want to start at $0 and pay $17–$47 a month as your list grows
  • You sell more than 3 courses (5 on Startup, 20 on Webinar)
  • You email your list often (unlimited sends on every plan)
  • You want evergreen webinars or your own affiliate program without a $297 plan

  • You build lots of funnels and don't want to count them
  • You need a second team member on the entry plan
  • You want a 14-day trial plus a 30-day money-back guarantee before you commit
  • You'll use the custom code editor, webhooks or API (from Scale, $197/mo)

The pattern: Systeme.io wins on cost and on how much you get per dollar. ClickFunnels wins on funnel volume, team seats and developer tools, which matter more to agencies and funnel-heavy marketers than to most solo creators.

How we compared

We read both pricing pages, Systeme.io's official plan data and help center, and ClickFunnels' plan comparison table and FAQ. We then priced each platform at three list sizes and mapped the plan limits to a typical solo setup: a freebie, a welcome sequence, one or two paid products and a weekly email. We didn't run paid accounts on either platform for this comparison. Where a vendor's own pages disagree, we say so. Our full method is on how we review.

What you'll really pay at 1k, 5k and 10k contacts

Both platforms price by contacts, so your list size sets your plan. Card processing fees from Stripe, PayPal or your payment provider apply on both and aren't included below.

Monthly billing

Your listSysteme.ioClickFunnelsGap per year
1,000 contacts$0 (Free) or $17 (Startup)$97 (Launch)$960–$1,164
5,000 contacts$17 (Startup)$97 (Launch)$960
10,000 contacts$47 (Webinar)$97 (Launch)$600
10,001–75,000 contacts$97 (Unlimited)$197 (Scale)$1,200

The math: at 1k, ($97 − $17) × 12 = $960, or $97 × 12 = $1,164 if Free covers you. At 5k, ($97 − $17) × 12 = $960. At 10k, ($97 − $47) × 12 = $600. Past 10k, ($197 − $97) × 12 = $1,200.

Why the 1k row has two Systeme.io prices: the free plan holds 2,000 contacts, but it allows only 1 tag, 1 automation rule and 1 email campaign. Add a second freebie or a paid product and you'll likely want Startup at $17. Our Systeme.io review walks through that limit in detail.

Paying yearly

Your listSysteme.ioClickFunnelsGap per year
1,000 contacts$0 or $170/yrAbout $970/yr$800–$970
5,000 contacts$170/yrAbout $970/yr$800
10,000 contacts$470/yrAbout $970/yr$500
10,001–75,000 contacts$970/yrAbout $1,970/yr$1,000

Systeme.io calls annual billing "2 months free". ClickFunnels shows Launch at $81/mo billed annually ("Save $194/year", so about $970) and Scale at $164/mo ("Save $394/year", so about $1,970).

Which limit bites first on each platform

The first ceiling you reach is what forces an upgrade.

Systeme.io: automation first, then contacts

PlanLimit you're likely to hit firstWhat it costs to fix
Free ($0)1 tag, 1 automation rule, 1 email campaignStartup, $17/mo
Free ($0)1 course and 500 studentsStartup, $17/mo
Startup ($17)5,000 contactsWebinar, $47/mo
Startup ($17)10 funnels, 5 workflows, 3 custom domainsWebinar, $47/mo
Webinar ($47)10,000 contactsUnlimited, $97/mo

These come from Systeme.io's own plan data. Its pricing FAQ describes Startup as having "unlimited funnels" and Webinar as "unlimited everything", but the plan data says Startup allows 10 funnels and 5 courses, and Webinar allows 50 funnels and 20 courses. We use the plan data, because the FAQ overstates it.

With one or two offers, 10 funnels is usually plenty. If you build a new funnel for every lead magnet or ad angle, the funnel cap can bite before contacts do.

ClickFunnels Launch: emails, courses and automations

ClickFunnels Launch ($97) gives you more room on funnels, but other limits show up sooner for a creator business.

  • 50K emails a month. One weekly newsletter to 10,000 contacts is about 43,300 emails a month (10,000 × 4.33 weeks). That leaves roughly 6,700 for welcome sequences and launch emails. Email twice a week at 10k and you'd need about 86,600, which is over the Launch allowance.
  • 3 courses and 3 communities. Fine for one flagship course and a bonus. A fourth course means Scale ($197), which allows 6.
  • Automations. ClickFunnels' plan comparison table marks "Automations" as not included on Launch (ticked from Scale) and "Advanced Workflows" from Optimize. An apps section on the same page says its apps, Automations included, are "Included for free in every plan." If your welcome sequence depends on automations, please confirm with ClickFunnels during the trial.
  • 1 workspace and 1 store. Launch includes one brand workspace (sub-account) and one store. A second brand means Scale.
  • 10K contacts. Past that, the next plan is Scale at $197 with 75K contacts.

Transaction fees: both 0%, so compare the plan price

This is one area where the two platforms match.

  • Systeme.io: "No transaction fees. Accept payments using Stripe or PayPal at no extra cost." That applies to every plan, Free included.
  • ClickFunnels: its FAQ asks "Does ClickFunnels take a percentage of my sales?" and answers "No. You'll keep every penny you make."

On both, your payment processor still charges its usual card fees. Since neither platform takes a cut, the monthly price is the whole platform cost. Some course platforms do take a percentage on entry plans, which is where the tool below helps.

Compare 0% transaction-fee options at your sales level. Enter your monthly course sales to see what course platforms cost once plan price and any platform fee are added, then set it next to Systeme.io's flat $0, $17 or $47 and ClickFunnels' flat $97.

Systeme.io: the budget all-in-one

Systeme.io bundles funnels, checkout, email marketing, courses, communities, a blog and an affiliate program into one account, with one contact list. Someone who opts in on your funnel lands on your email list and can buy and access your course without connecting apps.

What stands out for a creator business:

  • Courses per dollar. Startup ($17) allows 5 courses and Webinar ($47) allows 20, with unlimited students on paid plans.
  • Evergreen webinars. The Webinar plan includes 10 automated webinars.
  • Sales tools in checkout. Order bumps, one-click upsells, coupons and A/B tests, with 10 of each on Startup.
  • Unlimited sub-accounts on every plan, each with the same limits as the main plan, though each has its own list and login.
  • One setup step. Systeme.io's help center says you can't send from an @gmail.com address, and Yahoo is blocked too. You'll need an address on your own domain.

What we like

  • Free plan with 2,000 contacts that Systeme.io says "never expires"
  • $17 to $47 a month covers most solo creators up to 10,000 contacts
  • 0% transaction fees on every plan
  • Unlimited email sends, even on Free
  • 5 to 20 courses on paid plans, with unlimited students
  • Affiliate program management on all plans

Watch out for

  • Free plan automation is tight: 1 tag, 1 rule, 1 workflow, 1 campaign
  • Funnel caps on paid plans (10 on Startup, 50 on Webinar)
  • Pricing-page wording ("unlimited funnels") overstates Startup's limits
  • Gmail and Yahoo addresses can't be used to send
  • Going over a limit can pause opt-ins, payments and course access

ClickFunnels: the funnel-first platform

ClickFunnels is built around sales funnels, with courses, community, a store, email and a CRM added as apps. Its plans are Launch ($97), Scale ($197), Optimize ($297) and Dominate ($5,997 a year, annual only).

ClickFunnels Launch: what $97 a month includes

  • Price: $97/mo on monthly billing, or $81/mo billed annually
  • Contacts: 10K, with 50K emails a month
  • Funnels: unlimited, marked "Limited Time"; site pages and landing pages are unlimited
  • Courses and communities: 3 each
  • Custom domains: 5 (a free myclickfunnels.com subdomain if you don't have one)
  • Team: 2 team members and 1 brand workspace
  • Platform fee: none, per ClickFunnels' FAQ
  • Trial: 14-day free trial, then a 30-day money-back guarantee; ClickFunnels' FAQ calls this "a total of 44 days" risk-free
  • Not on Launch (per the plan table): Automations, the custom code editor, webhooks/API access, appointments, calendars and the Affiliate Center. One later row in the same table, "API & Webhooks", is ticked on every plan, so confirm with ClickFunnels if you need it on Launch

Skip it if: you're starting from zero and want to test an idea before paying, or your list is under 10,000 and you only need a handful of funnels. Systeme.io covers that for $0 to $47.

See current plans on the ClickFunnels pricing page.

What we like

  • Unlimited funnels, site pages and landing pages (funnels marked "Limited Time")
  • 10K contacts and 5 custom domains on the entry plan
  • 2 team members on Launch
  • 0% platform fee, per its FAQ
  • 14-day trial plus a 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Developer tools (custom code editor, webhooks/API) from Scale

Watch out for

  • $97/mo entry price, with no free plan
  • 50K emails a month on Launch
  • 3 courses on Launch, 6 on Scale
  • Plan table shows Automations from Scale ($197) and Affiliate Center from Optimize ($297)
  • 1 brand workspace on Launch
  • The plan table ticks "Branding Removal" only on Dominate

What ClickFunnels gives you that Systeme.io doesn't advertise

These are listed on ClickFunnels' plans but weren't in the Systeme.io pricing page or plan data we checked. If one matters to you, confirm on Systeme.io before you rule it out.

  • No funnel count to manage. Unlimited funnels on every plan ("Limited Time"), against 10 on Systeme.io Startup and 50 on Webinar.
  • Team seats. 2 team members on Launch, 5 on Scale. Systeme.io's plan data we checked doesn't list a team-seat allowance.
  • Onboarding and training. Group onboarding calls on every plan, plus a training library: a knowledge base on Launch and FunnelFlix from Scale.
  • A CRM pipeline. The plan table lists 1 CRM pipeline on Launch.
  • AI tools allowance. 1M words on Launch, 2M on Scale, plus AI coaching and an AI funnel builder in the plan table.
  • Message Hub. A shared inbox for leads and customers, with 2 agents on Launch.
  • Store features. A store with Add to Cart and Smart Checkout on every plan.
  • Survey workflows. Quiz-style funnels that collect answers, on every plan.
  • From Scale ($197): custom code editor, webhooks and full API access, appointments, calendars and countdown funnels.

The other way round, Systeme.io's edge is in the comparison table above: a free plan, unlimited sends, evergreen webinars, unlimited sub-accounts and more courses per dollar.

Who should pick which

Pick Systeme.io if:

  • You're starting out, or your list is under 10,000 contacts
  • You sell courses, digital products or coaching and want funnels, email and course hosting in one login
  • You email your list more than once a week
  • You'd rather put $600–$960 a year into ads, a designer or a better offer than into software

Pick ClickFunnels if:

  • Funnels are the business: you test many offers, ad angles or launches and don't want to count funnels
  • You work with a team member or VA from day one
  • You plan to use custom code, webhooks or the API, and Scale's $197 fits your margins
  • You value onboarding calls and a training library

Consider neither if: email is your whole business. A dedicated email tool gives you more editing and segmentation, and some have generous free plans. See best email marketing for creators. If you're weighing pricier course platforms too, our Kajabi alternatives guide covers what you'd save and give up.

Switching from ClickFunnels to Systeme.io (or back)

  1. Count what you have. Funnels, courses, contacts, domains and automations. More than 10 funnels or 5 courses points to Systeme.io Webinar ($47); more than 50 funnels or 20 courses points to Unlimited ($97), which Systeme.io's pricing page says includes a free migration service.
  2. Set up your sender domain first. Systeme.io doesn't allow @gmail.com sender addresses, so connect your own domain and a mailbox before you import anyone.
  3. Export your contacts. ClickFunnels' help center describes exporting from the Contacts page (select contacts, Bulk actions, Export). The CSV is emailed to the account holder.
  4. Import and tag. Tag imported contacts by source, such as "buyer" and "lead". The free plan allows only 1 tag, so a real migration usually starts on Startup.
  5. Rebuild pages and checkout. Plan to rebuild funnels in Systeme.io's editor rather than expecting a one-click copy.
  6. Keep course files outside both platforms, so you can upload your videos and PDFs anywhere.
  7. Handle recurring payments carefully. If you have active subscriptions or payment plans, check with both platforms and your payment provider first. We haven't verified how either one transfers them.
  8. Overlap, then cancel. Run both for a few weeks, test checkout with a real low-price purchase, and don't launch in the same week you migrate.

Going the other way? ClickFunnels' 14-day trial and 30-day money-back guarantee give you room to test. Export your Systeme.io contacts first. New to list building? Start with how to start an email list.

FAQ

Is Systeme.io better than ClickFunnels?

The bottom line

Both platforms take 0% of your sales, so the choice comes down to price and limits. For a solo creator selling courses, digital products or coaching, Systeme.io covers the job for $0 to $47 a month up to 10,000 contacts, with more courses and unlimited sends. That's $600 to $960 a year saved at 5k–10k contacts.
